ST3D is a Smalltalk-based toolkit for creating 3D applications
such as games, simulations and modelers.
ST3D includes:
- Support for immediate mode rendering of graphic primitives (points,
lines, polygons) and effects (e.g., textures and fog) using OpenGL.
- Scene graph support (i.e., retained mode rendering).
- ST3D Geometry Editor and ST3D Part Editor for creating
3D models and landscapes.
- 3ds max support (import geometry and
materials).
- Support for
BMP, TGA, JPG and GIF image file formats.
- Joystick and keyboard support via DirectX DirectInput.
- Support for sound effects (.WAV) and
music playback (MIDI and MP3).
- Frameworks and services for building custom 3D model
editors and interactive editor tools.
- Game, animation and editor examples (including "CoolPool"
and "Lander").
- OpenGL-enabled workspace for interactive execution of OpenGL
commands.
- All source code is provided.
For information on application development using ST3D, see the online Developer's Guide.
Hardware and Software Requirements
- Microsoft Windows 95/98/2000/XP
- Display adapter with full OpenGL Installable
Client Driver (ICD) supporting hardware acceleration within a window
(ATI 8XXX and 9XXX series adapters and adapters based
on NVIDIA TNT, TNT2, GeForce graphics
processors satisfy this requirement).
- Display color depth of 16 bits or greater
- DirectX Version 7 (for DirectSound and DirectInput)
Supported Display Adapters:
- Display adapters based on the NVIDIA
TNT, TNT2 and GeForce graphics processors
and ATI 8XXX and 9XXX series adapters.
Display adapters known NOT to work
with ST3D:
- ATI Rage, Radeon, and 7XXX series
display adapters.
- Adapters based on the Nvidia Riva 128 graphics chip (color dithering
problem).
- Adapters based on the 3Dfx Voodoo2 graphics chip (does not support
acceleration in a window).
ST3D Version 1.1 single user license: $249.00 (US).
